To Mandalay

Left our lovely Kalow hotel for Mandalay with a nice send off by the staff.

The first bit of the trip was lovely with lots of green . The road wasn't that great but then there really wasn't much traffic either.

Heard lots of noise and saw the donation trees travelling over the bridge collecting for the monks.

We arrived at our very large hotel late afternoon.

The first thing I had to do was find a pharmacy and was lucky to find one close to the hotel. Fortunately this one understood what I needed and I came away with the right stuff for these very nasty bed bug bites.

We were tired so dinner in the hotel looked like a good option. The menu looked a bit different from the usual local food we'd been eating but more expensive. ... still very cheap by our standards.

We all knew that ording western type food in an Asian country was a mistake, but surf and turf sounded very attractive after a diet of rice and noodles.

The whole experience of eating in this restaurant was one of the funniest experiences we've had on this trip... words can't describe it... a real comedy of errors from start to finish. They were trying sooo hard to be upmarket and failing totally. They actually had NZ beef lasagna on the menu which Chris ordered. After we had all finished our meals they told him that it was unavailable. NZ butter was also served... along with a stale bread roll.
